Eighty years after the racial laws were enacted in Italy and 50 year after his death, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was honored on 24 January 2018 in Rome.
The composer’s family received “il Premio del Presidente della Repubblica Italiana” and “la Medaglia della Camera dei Deputati,” the first official recognition of Castelnuovo-Tedesco since he emigrated to the United States in 1939. The awards were presented during the presentation at Montecitorio of the biography of the composer, Un fiorentino a Beverly Hills, published by Edizioni Curci in collaboration with CIDIM – Comitato Nazionale Italiano Musica. Raffaello Vignali of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, the event featured an interview with the book’s author, Maestro Angelo Gilardino and performances by violinist Francesca Dego in duo with pianist Francesca Leonardi, as well as guitarist Giulio Tampalini.
