On Saturday November 17, The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University will host a concert dedicated to the piano music of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Pianist and educator David Witten, whose international career has included concert tours in Europe, Israel, Asia, and South America, will perform works from his new CD, The Eclectic Piano Music of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
Before emigrating to the United States in 1939, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco was renowned not only as a composer, but also as a pianist and accompanist. He wrote extensively for piano throughout his life, including penning two piano concertos. Witten’s CD features solo piano works from both Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s early Florentine years as well as several from his later American period.
