Composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco Italian TV Interview 1967

In celebration of Mario’s birthday on 3 April , we are delighted to share a recently rediscovered Italian television segment featuring the composer, conducted at his home in Beverly Hills. Mario and his son Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, were interviewed by the prominent Italian journalist Tito Stagno for the RAI documentary “Italiani in California”.

The interview must have taken place in 1967, because we see the Appunti – Book One, completed on 2 July 1967, on the composer’s desk. As we hear the Guitar Concerto in D Major playing in the background, Mario talks about his life and career. Pietro answers a few questions from the journalist about his own work, and there is a little banter at the end about similarities between the work of a psychotherapist and that of a music teacher.

A sincere thank you to Mauro Bucarelli for this unique piece of history.
