A new recording conceived in Tuscany in October 2025, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s birth, is now available on digital platforms. Produced as part of the festival Musica Perseguitata: Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Italian Music in the New World, organized by the Centro di Formazione e Cultura Musicale di Vinci, the project was selected as a recipient of a 2024 “Per Chi Crea” grant, supported by the Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE) and the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC). The initiative brings together outstanding young local musicians who are already active on the international stage.
Over the course of six events, audiences had the opportunity to hear rarely performed works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The festival concluded with a performance of two movements from a recently published work: the Partita in B minor for Solo Violin by J.S. Bach, in Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s arrangement for string orchestra (Edizioni Curci). The digital album and three accompanying videos—one devoted to solo piano music and two documenting the festival’s closing concert—were produced in collaboration with the record label EMA Vinci.
Featured artists and repertoire include:
- Pianist Elisa Racioppi performs three solo works that reflect the composer’s formative Florentine years: Alghe, Cielo di Settembre, and Terrazze.
- Alessandro Lanzoni, one of the leading figures in today’s jazz scene in Italy, reimagines two works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco as improvisations for piano and Hammond organ.
- The cello and harp duo Inglese–Castini offers a refined interpretation of the Sonata for Cello and Harp, enriching the album with its distinctive and rarely heard sonorities.
- The violin and piano duo Pierattelli–Ruggiero pays tribute to the composer with the virtuosic and rarely heard Sonata quasi una fantasia.
- The violin and piano duo Filippini–Banchi presents Ritmi, a piece reflecting Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s interest in rhythm, color, and concise, brilliant forms.
The album concludes with two movements—Sarabanda and Bourée—from Bach’s Partita in B minor for Solo Violin, in Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s arrangement for string orchestra, conducted by Maestro Augusto Vismara.
